Abstract

My strategy has been to use the aesthetics of crafted familiar decorative
domestic objects to draw the viewer in and set up certain expectations which are
then confounded or challenged as the work undermines the initial propositions,
creating a tension between the visual language employed and the underlying content.
These works are created in series so that I can investigate a range of themes
including love, identity and notions of the ‘self’. I have also included a chapter called
‘creative mistakes’ that documents works which have informed my practice but have
not been fully developed during the Doctorate Programme.
