Bedlam: the Asylum and Beyond

An exhibition for the Wellcome Trust.
The exhibition interrogates the original ideal that the asylum represented – a place of refuge, sanctuary and care – and asks whether and how it could be reclaimed.

We worked with graphic designer Martin McGrath and curators
Bárbara Rodríguez Muñoz and Mike Jay, artist Vacuum Cleaner (www.thevacuumcleaner.co.uk) and learnt a great deal from the Dragon Cafe.

The design makes a setting which registers each historical phase,
the contemporary work and somewhere for the visitor to sit.
