Abstract

This article considers the assessment and conservative treatment of hallux valgus and aims to provide guidelines for monitoring the condition when treatment is initiated. Methods of assessing and monitoring the condition are put forward, highlighting the need to consider factors that have led the patient to present for treatment and stressing the need for the clinician to use validated, repeatable outcome measurements when possible.
There is paucity of good quality studies on conservative treatments for hallux valgus deformity. The outcomes from prospective clinical trials are described.
