Abstract

This paper aims to provide an in-depth analysis of post-apartheid South Africa’s journey, highlight policy successes and failures, and offer recommendations for sustainable development in the coming decades. The findings will contribute to the broader discourse on post-colonial African governance and economic transformation. This study builds upon existing literature to provide a comprehensive analysis of South Africa’s achievements and challenges over the last three decades. Data from the World Bank, IMF, AfDB, Statistics South Africa and Afrobarometer provide insights into economic indicators, development trends, and public perceptions in the country. This study employs a mixed-methods approach to provide a comprehensive analysis of South Africa’s post-apartheid progress. The empirical evidence suggests that contemporary neoliberal capitalism adopted post-apartheid has failed to produce sustainable economic development.
