Abstract | In this chapter, I adopt an intersectional approach to examine the impact of personal and social identities on traumatisation processes of national and international researchers of genocide and socio-political violence. I problematise the implicit assumption that primary, secondary and vicarious traumatisation are independent and mutually exclusive, and I introduce the concept intersectional traumatisation to explain how different traumatic processes intersect on multiple and often simultaneous levels through the act of listening, imagining, empathising and experiencing. |
