Abstract

Following Levelling Up white paper (2022), we recognise the prevalence of the term “pride-in-place” in local authority planning developments and cultural and heritage visions/strategies. However, its use in the white paper is vague, general, discursive (e.g. Bennett Report, 2022) on problem of metricising pride - How is pride expressed, felt, shared etc.? Whose pride? Emotional investments in place are significant, but to actually work at the (hyper) local level of placemaking (e.g., local heritage), we need better concepts and methods
