Abstract | Sponsored by the British Council, this study introduces a shape grammarbased generative system for designing houses, implemented through robotic construction methods. It aims to advance housing design by enabling a system for mass customization and affordability. Traditional construction methods often result in lengthy and costly processes, hindering affordability and design diversity. This research integrates generative design systems with advanced construction methods, leveraging shape grammar for architectural exploration and language generation. The study also emphasizes robotic construction techniques, such as concrete extrusion, to enhance building efficiency and reduce material waste. Previous built examples illustrate the benefits of robotic methods, including applications in remote locations. The research proposes a comprehensive approach combining shape grammar and robotics to address affordable housing challenges, detailing the development of a new design grammar, its script integration, and the fabrication of prototypes. The ongoing prototyping demonstrates the system's potential for highly housing solutions. |
